Pena goes deep twice as Hawks clip Fighters

Wily Mo Pena went 3-for-4 with two home runs and Kenji Akashi hit a go-ahead two-run infield single as the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks rallied to edge the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters 5-4 on Tuesday.

Pena drove a leadoff shot in the fifth to cut the Fighters’ lead to 2-1 and added a two-run blast in the seventh — his 15th homer of the season — to bring Softbank within 4-3. Akashi drove in runners from second and third with two outs the same inning to give the Hawks the lead for good.

Takehito Kanazawa (1-0) won in relief and Masahiko Morifuku picked up his 15th save with a perfect ninth. Naoki Miyanishi (1-2) was charged with the loss.

Sho Nakata went deep with a solo drive and Yang Dai-kang hit a two-run homer for the Fighters.

Lions 6, Marines 3

At QVC Marine Field, Hiroyuki Nakajima hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning as Seibu beat Chiba Lotte for its first win in three games.

Takayuki Kishi (9-8) struck out eight and limited the damage to two runs over eight innings. Seth Greisinger (6-6) was charged with three runs in 6⅔ innings.

At Kleenex Stadium, Satoshi Nagai and Hiroshi Kisanuki went seven and nine innings for Tohoku Rakuten and Orix, respectively, as the two teams played to a 10-inning scoreless tie.

At Jingu Stadium, Norihiro Nakamura hit a two-run homer and Kensuke Uchimura went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, leading Yokohama to a rout of Tokyo Yakult.

Shugo Fujii (6-2) threw five innings of one-run ball for the win. Masanori Ishikawa (6-9) gave up five runs in 6-1/3 innings for Yakult, which fell to a season-worst four games below .500.

At Hamamatsu Stadium, Yudai Ono (3-0) threw five innings of one-run ball as Chunichi beat Hiroshima for its third straight victory.

Kazuhiro Wada hit an RBI double in the third inning among his three hits for Chunichi. Kenta Maeda (11-4) took the loss.

At Tokyo Dome, pinch hitter Shinjiro Hiyama delivered a game-tying single in the eighth inning as Hanshin managed a 10-inning tie with Yomiuri.
