LONDON – Kasumi Ishikawa and Ai Fukuhara advanced to the fourth round of the women’s table tennis singles at the London Olympics on Sunday.
After both entered the tournament in the third round as seeded players, Ishikawa came back from two games down to beat Austria’s Li Qiangbing 11-13, 10-12, 11-7, 12-10, 11-8, 11-5 and Fukuhara defeated Russia’s Anna Tikhomirova 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, 11-3.
Ishikawa has been seeded fourth and Fukuhara fifth.
“I wasn’t as nervous as I expected to be,” Fukuhara said. “I’ve been working on my forehand a lot, so I tried to give what I’ve got. Now I feel confident after getting off to a solid start.”
