Japan sweeps Asian rugby rivals

Kyodo

New Japan rugby coach Eddie Jones won his first tournament in charge of the national squad on Saturday, when his team completed a sweep of the Asian Five Nations with a 67-0 victory over Hong Kong at Prince Chichibu Memorial Ground.

Japan scored 11 tries, the first by NEC’s Yu Tamura five minutes into the game. The hosts went into the break leading 29-0 and kept battering their opponents in the second half.

Ayumu Goromaru led the team in scoring with 17 points on six conversions and a try, while Hirotoki Onozawa scored a try on each side of the break.

Japan has earned a bonus-point win in each of the 20 Asian Five Nations games it has played.
