Ryo Ishikawa said Wednesday that he will not play in next month’s Japanese U.S. Open qualifier and will try to qualify through the world rankings.
“I want to pick up the necessary points over the next two weeks,” he said, referring to the Japan PGA Championship and the Totoumi Hamamatsu Open.
Ishikawa, currently ranked 54th, needs to stay inside the top 60 through the May 21 and June 11 rankings. The U.S. Open starts June 14 in San Francisco.
The one-day, 36-hole qualifying event in Japan will be held May 21 in Shizuoka Prefecture.
