KIKUYO, KUMAMOTO PREF. – Joint overnight leader Maiko Wakabayashi shot a 3-under-par 69 and held on to claim the second win of her career at the Nishijin Ladies Classic on Sunday.
Teeing off tied with South Korea’s Esther Lee, Wakabayashi holed four birdies against a lone bogey at Kumamoto Airport Country Club to close at 7-under 209, two strokes clear of Hiromi Mogi.
Wakabayashi’s first win since her maiden JLPGA victory at the 2008 Sankyo Ladies Open earned her ¥12.6 million in prize money.
“I missed the cut at last week’s event but tried to erase that from my mind and start afresh. I’m really happy,” said Wakabayashi. “It still hasn’t sunk in that I have won, though.”
