ARNHEM, NETHERLANDS – Striker Mike Havenaar was on target with his third goal of the season in Vitesse Arnhem’s 2-0 win over De Graafschap on Sunday.
Wilfred Bony lashed home a powerful drive after 34 minutes and Havenaar came close to doubling the lead after the restart but his header went wide from close range.
De Graafschap nearly equalized on a defensive error by Bony, but Soufian El Hassnaoui sent his shot over the top. Havenaar’s pivotal goal came with 17 minutes left when he shunted Alexander Buttner’s pass by De Graafschap keeper Yves de Winter.
“I’m glad that I scored and we won,” said Havenaar. “Getting the extra goal was massive for us and we were able to settle after that.”
