YAMAGATA – Teenager Sara Takanashi came up short in her bid for her second victory in as many days and finished runnerup at a ski jumping Women’s World Cup meet in Japan on Sunday.
Takanashi, who became the first Japanese woman to win a World Cup title on Saturday, posted the day’s longest jump of 99.5 meters in the first round, but was unable to complete a weekend double, finishing a distant second to Sarah Hendrickson of the United States with 234.2 points.
World Cup rankings winner Hendrickson scored her eighth win of the season with 249.1 points. Austria’s Daniela Iraschko placed third with 227.4. Atsuko Tanaka was eighth.
