MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA – Kei Nishikori ended his Australian Open warmup in style on Friday with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over former world No. 1 Andy Roddick at the Kooyong Classic.
Nishikori defeated sixth-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and 16th-ranked Roddick in two days after being called up at the last minute to replace Canada’s Milos Raonic.
Raonic lost his opening match Wednesday and withdrew because of illness.
“To play against two of the world’s top players before the Australian Open meant a lot to me,” Nishikori said. “I didn’t have many unforced errors today. I’m glad I’m in form.”
