Kwansei captures Koshien Bowl title

Kyodo

Running back Masaki Matsuoka rushed for a touchdown in the first half and sealed the game with a TD catch in the fourth quarter as Kwansei Gakuin University routed Nihon University in a 24-3 victory in the Koshien Bowl collegiate championship on Sunday.

Kwansei won its first title in four years and 24th overall — the most by any college team. Nihon University failed to capture its first Koshien Bowl title in 21 years.

The Koshien Bowl winner will face the champion of Monday’s X League title game in the Rice Bowl, which will be held on Jan. 3 at Tokyo Dome.
