Former WBC flyweight champion Daisuke Naito has decided to hang up his gloves for good, according to sources.
Naito, who last fought in a non-title match in May 2010, has told his mother, Michiko, that he will not fight again.
The Japan Boxing Commission revoked Naito’s license on his 37th birthday on Aug. 30 because he had not gone through the procedures to renew it by the end of last year.
Naito captured the WBC flyweight title in July 2007 with a unanimous decision over Thailand’s Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.
Naito successfully defended the title five times before losing a unanimous decision to Koki Kameda, now the WBA bantamweight champion, in November 2009.
