MUNAKATA, FUKUOKA PREF. – Mizuki Noguchi will run in the Osaka International Women’s Marathon in January to try to qualify for next year’s Summer Olympic Games in London, the former Olympic champion said Sunday.
Noguchi, who won a gold medal in the women’s marathon at the 2004 Athens Olympics, ran her first race since last December on this day. She had been out with a stress fracture.
Noguchi had been debating whether to race on Jan. 29 in Osaka or in the Nagoya Women’s Marathon on March 11 to book a spot on the Olympic team.
“I made the 2003 world championships team for Paris in Osaka and it’s where I want to run,” she said.
