Rugby team acts on earthquake jibe

Kyodo

Yokogawa Musashino has suspended all rugby activities for a month and forfeited four matches after a player taunted an Iwate team affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

Tokyo-based Yokogawa Musashino, which started its self-served suspension on Oct. 13, plays in a subdivision of the Japanese premier Top League. The opponents of the games it will miss will receive four points each.

In a match against Kamaishi Seawaves on Sept. 25, a player from Yokogawa Musashino reportedly said during a heated argument, “Has the quake made you guys crazy or what?”

Yokogawa Musashino later issued an apology, and immediately banned the player for a month.
