Horse racing returning to Fukushima

Kyodo

Horse racing will return to Fukushima next April after the entire 2011 season was wiped out by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, the Japan Racing Association announced on Monday.

Fukushima Racecourse suffered severe structural damage from the magnitude 9.0 quake, forcing the JRA to cancel all meets this year at the track.

Repair work is set to be completed by the end of March. The first scheduled meet will run from April 7 to 29, followed by a session from June 16 to July 8 and another from Nov. 3 to 18.
