CHIBA – Saiki Fujita pulled out a one-shot victory over last year’s champion Ahn Sun Ju by shooting a 2-under 70 in the final round of the Fujitsu Ladies on Sunday.
After starting the day one shot out of the lead, Fujita carded five birdies and three bogeys to finish at 7-under 209 at Tokyu Seven Hundred Club.
Her fifth career win and first since the 2010 Japan LPGA Championship earned Fujita ¥14.4 million.
“I let my chance to win slip away several times earlier in the season, so I told myself: not this week,” the 25-year-old said. “I just played with heart down the stretch.”
Ahn came up short with a 71 but tightened the vise grip on her second consecutive money title by finishing alone in second.
