FUNABASHI, CHIBA PREF. – No. 3 pick Curren Chan bolted ahead in the final straight to win the Sprinters Stakes on Sunday.
The 4-year-old filly, ridden by jockey Kenichi Ikezoe, pulled ahead from the outside to cross the line in 1 minute, 7.4 seconds at the 1,200-meter turf track at Nakayama Racecourse.
Pas de Trois, the ninth favorite, came second 1¾ lengths back in a photo finish with No. 7 pick A Shin Virgo. The top favorite, Rocket Man from Singapore, finished fourth.
“I was confident that I could pull off a victory in this (strong) field,” said Ikezoe, who won the Sprinters Stakes for the second time.
