Australia’s Barnes wins ANA Open

Kyodo

Australia’s Kurt Barnes picked up his first win in Japan at the ANA Open on Sunday as fellow overnight co-leader Masamichi Ito came up short in his bid to become the first amateur to win on the tour since Ryo Ishikawa in 2007.

Barnes shot a 1-under 71 to finish at 13-under 275, one stroke ahead of Tomohiro Kondo, Shingo Katayama and Komei Oda, at Sapporo Golf Club’s Wattsu Course. The 16-year-old Ito was alone in sixth at 278 after a 74.

Barnes, playing in his second JGTO Tour season, mixed four birdies with three bogeys, including one on the final hole. The 30-year-old claimed the winning prize of ¥22 million.
