Shinnosuke Abe broke a scoreless tie with a seventh-inning leadoff homer and Josh Fields followed with a two-run drive for his first home run in Japan as the Yomiuri Giants beat the Chunichi Dragons 4-0 on Sunday.
Abe connected to the stands in left-center off Enyelbert Soto (5-1) and Fields, who had stints with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals in the major leagues, went deep the same direction one out later off the lefty with a runner on second at Tokyo Dome.
Abe cushioned the lead with a run-scoring double off the top of the wall in right in the eighth. Umpires had to view video footage to confirm that the ball had not gone over for a home run.
Shun Tono (7-10) threw eight shutout innings, striking out seven, walking one and hitting a batter with a pitch.

At Mazda Stadium, Tomoaki Kanemoto hit a pair of homers and drove in three runs to help power Hanshin over Hiroshima.
Kanemoto had a two-run blast in the second inning and a solo drive in the fifth, both off Bryan Bullington (12-9), to give Hanshin a 3-0 lead. Randy Messenger (11-3) gave up three runs in 5⅔ innings for the win and Kyuji Fujikawa pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his 34th save.
BayStars 4, Swallows 2
At Jingu Stadium, Shuichi Murata homered and had two RBIs, Kentaro Takasaki (5-12) came within one out of his first career shutout and Yokohama snapped Tokyo Yakult’s undefeated streak at 10 games, including one tie.
Murata hit a solo drive off Tatsuyoshi Masubuchi (7-8) in the fourth inning and Yokohama added three runs in the fifth, featuring an RBI single by Tatsuhiko Kinjo. Hiroyasu Tanaka had an RBI single off Takasaki in a two-run ninth for Yakult.
Hawks 4, Fighters 3
At Yahoo Dome, Seiichi Uchikawa went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including a tiebreaking two-run single in the fourth inning, as Softbank downed Hokkaido Nippon Ham and saw its magic number to clinch its second straight PL title fall to 15.
Katsuki Yamazaki added insurance with an RBI double in the sixth, while Yoshio Itoi and Yang Dai-kang hit solo homers for Nippon Ham.
Tadashi Settsu (12-8) limited the damage to two runs in seven innings of work. Mitsuo Yoshikawa (0-4) was tagged for three runs in four innings of the loss.

At QVC Marine Field, Lee Seung Yeop hit a solo drive to cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fourth inning before Tomotaka Sakaguchi tied the game with an RBI triple and Keiji Obiki had a go-ahead single off Shingo Ono (4-5) in a three-run seventh as Orix rallied past last-place Chiba Lotte.
Alfredo Figaro (7-6) won in relief. The Marines lost their sixth in a row to fall 18 games below .500.

At Seibu Dome, Takumi Kuriyama delivered a walk-off RBI single in the ninth inning as Seibu sent Tohoku Rakuten to its fourth straight loss.
