U.S. spikers prevail against Japan

Japan suffered a straight-sets loss to the United States in a Pool H match of the women’s volleyball World Grand Prix on Saturday.

The defending champion Americans defeated the Japanese 25-22, 25-14, 25-18 for their fifth win in as many preliminary-round matches. Japan dropped its record to 3-2 at Park Arena Komaki.

“My players lack concentration,” said Japan head coach Masayoshi Manabe. “There were a lot of serving errors. Our service-reception was also poor. . .”

In the day’s other Pool H game, Serbia (3-2) took care of the Dominican Republic (1-4) by scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-22.
