Hurdler Liu to compete in Kobe

Athens Olympic 110-meter gold medal hurdler Liu Xiang will be among the featured athletes competing at next month’s Asian Championships in Kobe, the Japan Association of Athletics Federations said on Monday.

Liu will be one of the top athletes from 40 countries taking part in the July 7-10 meet at Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium.

Nigerian-born sprinter Samuel Francis of Qatar, who has a personal best 9.99 seconds in the men’s 100 meters as well as Qatari Femi Seun Ogunode, winner of gold in both the men’s 200 and 400 meters at the Asian Games in Guangzhou last fall, will also appear.

India’s Preeja Sreedharan, who won the women’s 10,000 meters at the Asian Games, is also scheduled to participate.
