Fukushima wins 200, completes sprint double at national championships

Chisato Fukushima completed her first-ever sprint double with a victory in the women’s 200 meters at the national championships on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Fukushima, who won the women’s 100 meters a day earlier, emerged the winner, storming across the line in 23.44 seconds at Kumagaya Athletics Stadium. She won the 200-meter title for the first time in two years.

Yukifumi Murakami won the men’s javelin with a meet record toss of 82.75 meters en route to claiming his 12th consecutive title and also booked his spot for the world championships starting Aug. 27 in Daegu, South Korea.

Masashi Eriguchi, meanwhile, won his third straight title in the men’s 100 meters, crossing the finish in 10.38. Yuzo Kanemaru also booked a spot on the national team with his seventh consecutive victory in the men’s 400 meters in a time of 45.68.

Yuka Murofushi took her 10th consecutive crown in the women’s discus with an effort of 51.85 meters and Megumi Kinukawa won the women’s 5,000 meters in 15 minutes, 9.96 seconds.
