CANET FRANCE – Ryosuke Irie completed a backstroke double Thursday when he won the 200 meters in a meet record time in the second leg of the Mare Nostrum European Grand Prix series.
Irie clocked 1 minute, 54.54 seconds to add to the 100-meter backstroke Wednesday he also won in a meet record of 53.72.
“There was a buzz around the venue so I thought I must have clocked a fast time. It is nice to be cheered like that,” said Irie.
National record-holder Aya Terakawa also won her second backstroke race, taking the 50 meters in 28.09 after winning the 100 on Wednesday.
