Japan swept the men’s and women’s doubles titles at badminton’s World Super Series for the first time Sunday at the India Open.
Noriyasu Hirata and Hirokatsu Hashimoto beat Indonesia’s Angga Pratama and Ryan Agung Saputra in the final at New Delhi 21-17, 21-9 for Japan’s first men’s title in the four-year-old series.
On the women’s side, Satoko Suetsuna and Miyuki Maeda won their second series crown after besting the pair of Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakikawa 26-24, 21-15 in an all-Japanese final.
Suetsuna and Maeda came fourth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Fujii and Kakikawa were runnersup at the All England Open in March.
