ICHIHARA, CHIBA PREF. – Joint overnight leader Yuri Fudo held steady to claim her 50th Japan LPGA Tour victory at the Cyber Agent Ladies on Sunday.
Fudo shot a 4-under-par 68 to capture her second consecutive win of the campaign, closing out at 10-under 206, three shots clear of last year’s winner Shin Ji Yai of South Korea.
The 34-year-old from Kumamoto is only the fourth player on the JLPGA Tour to post 50 wins after Hisako Higuchi, Ayako Okamoto and Taiwan’s Tu Ai-yu.
“When I heard it was my 50th win I thought ‘Have I really won that many titles,’?” said Fudo. “The win that sticks in my mind most is my first (at the 1999 Itoen Ladies).”
A six-time money title winner in Japan, Fudo won the Nishijin Ladies Classic in front of her home fans a fortnight ago and sat out last week’s Fujisankei Ladies Classic.
