ICHIHARA CHIBA PREF. – Veteran Yuri Fudo enjoyed a late flurry of birdies in a 6-under 66 Saturday to move into a tie for the lead with defending champion Shin Ji Yai going into the final round of the Cyber Agent Ladies.
Fudo started the day back in a share of 24th but the six-time Japan LPGA money title winner thrust herself into contention for her second win of the season with a flawless round at Tsurumai Country Club.
Fresh from a week off the tour after claiming her 49th victory in front of home fans in Kumamoto at the Nishijin Ladies Classic, Fudo sank a 23-foot birdie putt on the fifth hole and added a 13-footer on the seventh.
The 34-year-old maintained her focus in blustery conditions after the turn and four more birdies through her last six holes put her alongside Shin at the top of the leaderboard at 6-under 138.
“I took it easy last week,” said Fudo. “Winning my first tournament in a while wore me out. I got support from so many people so it was great in Kumamoto.”
