OSAKA (Kyodo) WBA bantamweight champion Koki Kameda said Friday that he will make his first title defense on May 7 against 14th-ranked Nicaraguan Daniel Diaz at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium.
The eldest of the three Kameda boxing brothers became the first Japanese to win world titles in three weight divisions when he defeated Alexander Munoz of Venezuela by unanimous decision last December.
The 24-year-old Osaka native plans to donate part of the proceeds from the match to earthquake relief efforts in northeastern Japan.
“We have to help each other when the country is in a severe situation like this,” Kameda said. “I’m very excited about my first world title bout in Osaka. I’ve never won a title match by knockout, so I want to do that in May.”
