Pa League to delay start of season

Kyodo News

The Pacific League has decided to postpone its season-opening games on March 25 following last Friday’s devastating earthquake in Tohoku, but the Central League will go ahead and hold its games scheduled the same day, Nippon Professional Baseball said Tuesday.

The decisions came following an executive committee meeting to discuss possibly postponing the start of the regular season, taking into account one of the hardest hit areas, Sendai, which is home to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.

Chunichi Dragons team representative Norihiro Nishiwaki had said earlier in the day there was no reason for CL teams to delay their season openers, although Japan was still facing a crisis at a quake-stricken nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture.
