LONDON (Kyodo) Mayuko Fujiki, a member of Japan’s bronze medal-winning synchronized swimming team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, has become the head coach of the U.S. national team, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The 35-year-old coach’s contract runs through the end of 2012, the year of the London Olympic Games.
Fujiki’s coaching skills have landed her positions on the national coaching staffs of countries such as Japan, Greece, Australia and most recently Spain.
