NAGOYA (Kyodo) Chunichi Dragons left-hander Masahiro Yamamoto re-signed for ¥100 million on Friday, agreeing to a ¥20 million pay cut.
Yamamoto concluded a two-year deal this season. His new deal, which will be his 28th year in pro baseball, is for one year.
“I want to experience the joy of being part of the team that wins the Japan Series one more time,” said Yamamoto.
The 45-year-old Yamamoto went 5-1 with a 3.21 ERA in eight starts this past season. He posted a win in his season debut on Aug. 7, setting a Japanese baseball record for registering victories for 23 consecutive years. In 2010, Yamamoto also rewrote his own Central League record of playing for 25 years on the top team.
