Japan spikers top Tunisia in World League qualifier

NAGANO (Kyodo) The Japan men’s volleyball squad cruised to a straight-sets victory over Tunisia on Tuesday in the first of its two-match series in the 2011 World League qualifiers.

Japan dominated the match 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 at White Ring, winning eight consecutive points during the second set.

Tatsuya Fukuzawa scored a game-high 17 points. Kunihiro Shimizu followed with 14 points and Yusuke Ishijima added 12.

A win or a full-sets loss on Wednesday will take Japan to the Aug. 24-25 series against South Korea for a spot in the main competition.
