CHITOSE, Hokkaido Pref. – Tetsuji Hiratsuka followed his opening 4-under 68 with a 66 to take the clubhouse lead as the second round was suspended due to darkness at the Sega Sammy Cup on Friday.
Hiratsuka reeled off seven birdies in a nine-hole stretch around the turn on his way to a 10-under 134 total at The North Country Golf Club in Hokkaido.
South Korea’s Cho Min Gyu and tour rookie Shunsuke Sonoda were one shot behind Hiratsuka after rounds of 65 and 66, respectively.
Azuma Yano (67) and Kim Kyung Tae (68) sat two more strokes back.
Teenager Ryo Ishikawa was at 1 under after a 69.
A total of 27 players need to finish the second round Saturday morning, which will be followed by the third round.
