TSU, Mie Pref. (Kyodo) Jay Choi of the United States shot a 5-under 67 to take the clubhouse lead Thursday as the first round was suspended due to inclement weather at the inaugural Toshin Golf Tournament. The 26-year-old Choi carded six birdies and one bogey at Toshin Lake Wood Golf Club in Mie Prefecture. In his first year on the JGTO Tour, Choi tied for sixth at the season-opening Token Homemate Cup in April. Satoru Hirota and New Zealand’s Eddie Lee shot 68s. Shunsuke Sonoda, who won the Mizuno Open Yomiuri Classic last week, could not start his round and is scheduled to play 36 holes on Friday.
