Kitajima wins second race in Spain

BARCELONA, Spain (Kyodo) Two-time double Olympic breaststroke champion Kosuke Kitajima added to his victory in the 100 meters from the previous day, winning the 50 meters at the 2010 Mare Nostrum European Grand Prix series on Thursday.

Kitajima, who was third in the preliminaries, touched the wall in 27.96 seconds, beating Dragos Agache of Romania by 0.05. World record holder Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa finished third in 28.30.

“I made a really great start. It was a great swim today,” Kitajima said.

Kitajima failed in his bid for a treble when he finished runnerup in the 200 (2 minutes, 11.64 seconds).
