Ryu in position to earn first career triumph

Ritsuko Ryu carded a 5-under 67 on Saturday to take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Resort Trust Ladies.

The 22-year-old made six birdies against a bogey to reach 9-under 135 at Grandee Karuizawa Golf Club.

Ryu’s career best finish is third at the 2008 Crystal Geyser Ladies and best result so far this season is a tie for 23rd at the Yonex Ladies last week.

Mayu Hattori enjoyed a bogey-free round with the day’s low score of 65 to share second with Song Bo Bae (66), Hiromi Takesue (69) and Yoshimi Koda (69).

Rui Kitada shot a 69 to sit another shot back in a three-way tie for sixth.

Sakura Yokomine and first-round leader Chie Arimura were three shots off the lead after rounds of 66 and 73, respectively.

Miyamoto eyes title

KASAMA , Ibaraki Pref. (Kyodo) Katsumasa Miyamoto gained more ground in a bid to win his second career Japan Golf Tour Championship title before the weather-hit third round was suspended because of darkness on Saturday.

Miyamoto, the 2001 winner of the major, had four birdies and two bogeys through 13 holes to reach 8 under at Shishido Hills Country Club.

Shigeki Maruyama was at 3 under with three holes left to play.

Ryo Ishikawa dropped to even par after mixing two birdies with two bogeys and a double bogey through 14 holes.

Thunderstorms delayed the start of the round for two hours and play was halted again after 3 p.m. upon the approach of thunder.
