Kimura’s title bid fails in Thailand

MAHA SARAKHAM, Thailand (Kyodo) Challenger Shoji Kimura was knocked out by WBA super bantamweight champion Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym of Thailand in the fourth round of their world title bout in this northeastern region of Thailand on Thursday.

The 12th-ranked Kimura, a former Japanese super bantamweight champion, slipped to 23-4 (9 KOs) with two draws. Kratingdaenggym improved his slate to 41-1 (29 KOs).

Kratingdaenggym stopped the 32-year-old Kimura 2 minutes, 23 seconds into the fourth to successfully defend the title for the third time.

The venue of the fight was located about 400 km from the scene of the deadly protests against the Thai government in Bangkok.
