Hasegawa exits hospital after jaw surgery

KOBE (Kyodo) Former WBC bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa left a Kobe hospital on Friday, three days after undergoing surgery on his broken jaw.

Hasegawa suffered the broken jaw in his knockout loss to WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel of Mexico two weeks ago in Tokyo.

“I’m glad I could leave the hospital early,” Hasegawa said. “I want to resume my training as soon as possible.”

Hasegawa was attempting to defend the title for the 11th time. Montiel successfully unified the WBC and WBO belts.
