Inui-Kobayashi 3rd in duet final at synchronized swimming championships

Yukiko Inui and Chisa Kobayashi placed third in the duet free routine final at the Japan Open synchronized swimming championships on Wednesday.

Inui and Kobayashi, third after the technical routine, scored a combined total of 182.625 points at Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center. Andrea Fuentes and Ona Carbonell of Spain won the title with 188.500, while Canada’s Marie-Pier Boudreau Gagnon and Chloe Isaac were second with 187.875.

In finishing top among Japanese competitors, Inui and Kobayashi earned a berth to the World Cup in Changshu, China in September and the Asian Games also being held in China in Guangzhou in November.

Canada won the team final with 188.250. Ukraine was second with 182.500 and Japanese team Imura M was third with 181.625. The non-Olympic solo title went to Boudreau Gagnon, with Fuentes and Japan’s Yumi Adachi following in second and third.

Swimmers from 13 countries and regions joined Japanese competitors for the four-day meet, which doubled as the national championships.
