KAWANISHI, Hyogo Pref. (Kyodo) Hiroyuki Fujita putted in from the fringe for a birdie to defeat Toru Taniguchi in a playoff at the Tsuruya Open on Sunday.
Fujita holed his winning putt of about 25 feet on the third extra hole, the par-4 18th, shortly after Taniguchi reached the green with his third shot at Yamanohara Golf Club.
The 40-year-old Fujita earned his ninth career win on the JGTO Tour and ¥18 million in prize money.
“My opponent was Taniguchi-san. You can’t expect a mistake from him, so I knew it was going to be a tough playoff,” Fujita said.
