Kei Nishikori has entered for next month’s French Open, his management said on Friday.
The 20-year-old, who made his comeback from an elbow injury in February, has a protected ATP ranking of No. 106 for the second Grand Slam tournament getting under way at Roland Garros on May 23. He will likely appear from the qualifying round.
On Thursday, Nishikori fell 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals to world No. 108 Robby Ginepri of the United States at the Tallahassee Challenger, a lower tier event, in Tallahassee, Fla. He missed the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami last month with discomfort in the same arm.
Most players must have a world ranking in the top 100 to secure a spot directly into the main draw at the French Open.
