Irie wins national 200-meter title

World silver medalist Ryosuke Irie captured his fourth consecutive title in the men’s 200-meter backstroke at the national championships on Saturday.

Irie timed 1 minute, 55.52 seconds for top honors at Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center and secured a berth for the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, this November.

Meanwhile, two-time double Olympic breaststroke champion Kosuke Kitajima cruised into Sunday’s 100 breaststroke final with the top time of 1:00.48 in the semis.
