Ishikawa fails to make cut

Ryo Ishikawa only managed a 2-over 73 to miss the cut by four strokes, but Yuta Ikeda survived for weekend play after matching the day’s low with a 65 in the second round of the Token Homemate Cup on Friday.

Ishikawa and Ikeda, the top two on the 2009 JGTO money list, posted the contrasting scores a day after both endured poor starts in the season-opening event at Token Tado Country Club.

Ishikawa fell to an 8-over 150 total. Ikeda climbed into a tie for 42nd at 3 over.

Yui Ueda and Katsumasa Miyamoto were tied for the lead at 3 under after rounds of 67 and 69, respectively.

Daisuke Maruyama (68) and Satoshi Tomiyama (71) were one stroke back, along with South Koreans Kim Do Hoon (68) and Kim Kyung Tae (71).

Crowd favorite Shigeki Maruyama was disqualified for failing to sign his scorecard.

Ueda takes lead

KIKUYO , Kumamoto Pref. (Kyodo) U.S. LPGA player Momoko Ueda shot a 5-under 67 to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the Nishijin Ladies Classic on Friday.

The 2007 Japanese tour money leader had an eagle, four birdies and a bogey at Kumamoto Kuko Country Club.

Ueda won this tournament, formally known as the Life Card Ladies, in 2007 and is now looking for the ninth title of her career.

Chieko Amanuma shared second with Shin Ji Yai, the 2009 U.S. LPGA money list and Rookie of the Year winner.

Sakura Yokomine and Park In Bee featured in a seven-way tie for third a further shot behind.
