Jockey Take hurts shoulder in fall

TAKARAZUKA, Hyogo Pref. (Kyodo) Star jockey Yutaka Take was taken to a hospital with a suspected broken left shoulder and damaged joints in his right hand after being thrown off his horse in a Grade Three race on Saturday.

Take, who has won at least one Grade One title every year for the last 22 years in a row, is almost certain to miss next month’s Oka-sho aboard Apricot Fizz and the Satsuki-sho on Victoire Pisa, two legs of the classic series in Japan.

The 41-year-old was thrown forward when his horse The Taiki fell on the last stretch in the day’s 10th race in the Mainichi Cup at Hanshin Racecourse.

Take’s winningest jockey streak was snapped at seven consecutive years by Hiroyuki Uchida in 2009.
