Kyodo News

Akemi Ozaki, the 2006 Tokyo International Women’s Marathon runnerup, is prepared to retire from competitive marathon after the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday.

“I don’t mean to stop running, but I’ve decided to stop competing in marathons,” the 32-year-old Ozaki said Friday at a press conference by selected Tokyo Marathon runners.

Ozaki, the elder sister of 2009 world marathon silver medalist Yoshimi Ozaki, also has achieved other notable long-distance running results, including second-place finishes at the 2007 Honolulu Marathon and the 2009 Hokkaido Marathon.
