Skicross racer Takizawa injured

Kyodo News

Olympic-bound skicross racer Hiromi Takizawa took a nasty fall in Sunday’s World Cup meet in Lake Placid, and broke or cracked a bone near his pelvis, Ski Association of Japan official Tatsuo Hayashi said Monday.

Hayashi has been informed that it will take about two weeks for Takizawa to return to action if the bone is not broken, while his Olympic appearance will be in jeopardy if it is.

Takizawa, the 2002-03 World Cup skicross overall champion, will be examined further after he arrives back in Japan.

Hayashi said the association will not have a replacement for Takizawa even if he cannot compete in Vancouver.
