Yumoto soars to TvH Cup win

Kyodo

Fumihisa Yumoto put the disappointment of missing out on a place at the upcoming Vancouver Games behind him with victory at the TVh Cup on Saturday.

Yumoto saw off Japan’s Vancouver team members with jumps of 132.5 and 130.5 meters to win the title for the first time in three years with 271.4 points.

“I’m over not getting picked for the Olympics and jumped with confidence,” said Yumoto. “My second jump I think in fact was better than my first. I don’t have any worries about the next event.”

Veteran Noriaki Kasai had 257.0 points for second place, while Daiki Ito, who posted the day’s longest leap of 134 meters in the first round of jumps on the K-120 Okurayama Hill, was third with 256.9.

Shohei Tochimoto was fourth, Takanobu Okabe followed in fifth and Taku Takeuchi was ninth.

Ayumi Watase scored 247.1 points to claim her first title in the women’s competition.
