Jun Mizutani defeated Kaii Yoshida in four games in the final to capture his fourth straight singles title at the national table tennis championships Sunday.
Mizutani downed Yoshida 11-4, 12-10, 11-7, 11-8 a day after capturing his fourth consecutive doubles title with partner Seiya Kishikawa at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
The 20-year-old Mizutani became the third player to win four singles titles in a row and the first since Kiyoshi Saito won in 1982-85.
In the women’s doubles, Hiroko Fujii and Misako Wakamiya captured their first national title with a 14-12, 11-9, 10-12, 11-7 win over Sayaka Hirano and Reiko Hiura.
Ai Fukuhara and Kasumi Ishikawa lost to the champion pair three games to one in the quarterfinals.
