Uemura struggles in World Cup event

CALGARY, Alberta (Kyodo) World champion and Olympic medal hopeful Aiko Uemura finished 14th in the third World Cup event of the Olympic season on Friday.

Uemura scored only 15.93 points after struggling with her turns and going off-balance at the finish line in the freestyle skiing event.

“I haven’t been able to ski the way I’m supposed to, so I’m not even upset,” said Uemura, who had placed second and 24th in the previous two events, respectively.

Compatriots Miki Ito and Arisa Murata failed to qualify for the 16-woman final.
