SENDAI (Kyodo) Japan ran in six tries en route to a 46-8 demolition of Canada in the first match of a two-match test series in Sendai on Sunday.
Michael Leitch dived over to put Japan on their way after nine minutes following a good rolling maul and Takashi Kikutani and Go Aruga added tries as the hosts romped into a 25-3 halftime lead.
Japan continued to dictate the pace and Hirotoki Onozawa also scored a try in the second half to help the home side to victory in blustery conditions at Sendai’s Yurtec Stadium.
Japan improved their record against the Canadians to 12 wins against 10 losses and three draws. The two teams wrap up the series next Saturday at Prince Chichibu Memorial Ground in Tokyo.
