Japan’s Akiko Morigami said on Monday she will retire from competitive tennis at the end of the season as she is no longer able to perform at a high level.
“I have fluid that has built up in my knee and I am no longer able to train the way I want to. If I can’t return to the stage of playing that I once had I really don’t see any reason to continue,” said Morigami.
The 29-year-old will play in her last tournament at the national championships in November.
