Ikeda takes Canon Open by storm

YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) Yuta Ikeda enjoyed a birdie blitz in the final round to come from behind and register a four-shot win at the weather-shortened Canon Open on Sunday.

Ikeda began the day three strokes behind overnight leader Kenichi Kuboya but the 23-year old set Totsuka Country Club alight with eight birdies, six of them on the front nine, in a flawless round of 64 to clinch his third title of the season.

“I just wanted to improve my score from the morning,” said Ikeda. “I didn’t realize I had tied for the lead after making three straight birdies (from the second hole) but I was thinking that was the starting point for me.”
