Rizing Fukuoka forward Michael Parker, the bj-league’s reigning scoring champion, put 32 points on the board in his team’s 95-79 season-opening win over the visiting Oita HeatDevils on Friday.
Parker added 12 rebounds and Marlyn Bryant poured in 30 points as ex-Oita coach Tadaharu Ogawa picked up his first win as Fukuoka’s floor boss. Steady point guard Tsuyoshi Kawazura had an eight-point, nine-rebound, eight-assist performance and backcourt mate Kohei Mitomo chipped in with 15 points.
For the HeatDevils, playing their first game under new coach Brian Rowsom, Mike Bell had 30 points and 16 boards, Ricky Woods added 21 points and Yukinori Suzuki had 10.
The Sendai 89ers, meanwhile, improved to 2-0 with an 86-69 win over the host Saitama Broncos. Chris Holm had 17 points and 16 rebounds and Demetrius Guions added 19 points for the 89ers, who had five players in double figures.
Mario Jointer paced the Broncos with 23 points.
